Mallory Avis, MBAMallory is a public transportation executive and public service leader with extensive experience in organizational development, regional governance, strategic planning, grant administration, and community engagement. Throughout her career, she has focused on building partnerships, strengthening organizations, and developing solutions that improve access and quality of life for the communities she serves.
As Executive Director of a newly established regional transportation authority, Mallory leads efforts to provide coordinated mobility services that connect residents with employment, healthcare, education, and essential community resources. Her work centers on creating sustainable transportation systems through collaboration, innovation, and responsible stewardship of public resources. Since relocating to Battle Creek in 2019 to serve as Public Transit Director, Mallory has overseen a period of significant growth and advancement in public transportation. Under her leadership, transit services expanded, organizational performance improved, and more than $20 million in federal, state, and local funding was secured to support fleet modernization, infrastructure improvements, technology investments, and service enhancements. |
Mallory also played a key leadership role in the successful creation of a countywide transportation authority serving Calhoun County. The effort required years of strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, intergovernmental coordination, and community outreach. Working closely with municipal leaders, county officials, community partners, and residents, she helped guide the transition from a municipal transit system to a regional authority designed to meet the long-term mobility needs of the community. Following its creation, she was selected to serve as the authority's inaugural Executive Director.
In addition to her local leadership, Mallory serves as Secretary/Treasurer of the Michigan Public Transit Association (MPTA), where she works alongside transportation professionals and industry leaders from across the state to advance public transit and strengthen mobility opportunities for Michigan residents.
Known for her collaborative approach and ability to build consensus among diverse stakeholders, Mallory has successfully led initiatives involving local governments, nonprofit organizations, business leaders, community advocates, and state agencies. Her leadership style combines strategic vision with practical execution, helping organizations move from planning to measurable results.
